<description>I attended the Living Library event at the Fish Creek Library on Saturday, March 13, 2010. It was an exhilarating event all around, so much so, that I found it difficult to leave.

There were 10 living books available to be taken out, each with an amazing amount of information and personality. The Library put together a wonderful event that allowed the living books and hte readers, the opportunity to talk with each other. I arrived with the intention of staying for about one hour, but after a most enjoyable hour of learning, I could not bring myself to leave. The next thing I knew 3 hours had passed and I was totally energized.

I am so proud to be part of an organization that sees the value in bringing people together to learn from each other. If you are considering becoming a living book, don&#039;t think about it any further, do it. I know you will also find the &quot;living book&quot; experience, enjoyable and an opportunity to positively impact the lives of others.

Considering sharing the opportunity to become a living book with those you know, everyone has experiences, knowledge and adventures to share. Simply apply on-line to the Calgary Public Library, as a library volunteer and indicate that you are interested in becoming a living book.

Here are some brief details on the living books that I read:

•	A young quadriplegic lady
•	A recovering alcoholic and drug addict, who is a father of teenagers and a magician
•	A young Sikh with a masters in history
•	A retired career counselor who went to university at age 50
•	Barb Scott, yes, the retired city alderman
•	A fellow who has self published a book on living in Calgary with no vehicle (he and his wife have 2 young children and have not had a vehicle for 12 years)
•	A gentleman who had 2 strokes and through a journey of recovery, is now working part time
•	And the list goes on

I hope you can participate as either a living book or as a reader of a living book, you will enjoy it.
